I am a masters swimmer, which means I am too old to compete with the fast swimmers but I love to swim with a team.
I am a member of the Southern California Aquatics, or SCAQ. Here is a link to their membership page with a list of workouts and pools that are available. You can get a free workout, check the schedule or call me. You don't have to be fast, you just have to want to improve and get a great workout.
As a swimmer, one of my favorite charities is Swim with Mike, founded by Mike Nyeholt, USC Business Administration & Finance, 1978.
In 1981 Mike Nyeholt broke his neck in a motorcycle accident, a moment that changed his life forever. Nyeholt was an elite level swimmer who went on to achieve All American status, world ranking, and three NCAA Swimming team titles at USC. He graduated with a B.S. in Business Administration and Finance in 1978 and had started to build his career as an Institutional Sales Professional at the Capital Group Companies in Los Angeles.
Mike’s accident inspired his lifelong friend and fellow swim teammate Ron Orr to organize a “Swim-a-Thon” to raise money for an adapted van. Nyeholt recognized that his athletic background, the support of others, his USC degree and work experience helped him move on to the point where he could not only survive but thrive. His vision created, developed and sustained Swim With Mike and the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship Fund for 39 years, providing college scholarships to over 200 athletes who experienced injuries as he had.
Mike serves as the Chairman of the Board of Swim With Mike and has personally raised more than $1 million so far. In his professional

“It’s my hope that Swim With Mike and the Physically Challenged Athletes Scholarship which it supports, will continue to grow and assist the many who suffer disabling accidents. In the near term, we hope to endow an Executive Director position and many of the scholarships so that our vision and hope will outlive us all!”
To provide financial resources for advanced education that pave the way for physically challenged athletes to overcome their tragedies and realize their full potential.
